The AAD Shade Structure Program provides grants to schools and organizations to erect shade structures in their communities. These shade structures allow children, teens and others to spend time outdoors while remaining protected from the sun's harmful rays. Since 2000, the Academy has awarded more than 246 shade structure grants to organizations across the country, providing shade for more than 558,500 individuals each day! Your support will allow for the construction of more shade structures, which will spread shade and sun safety throughout the country.
Leadership Institute
The development of dermatologic leaders is crucial to the future of the specialty. The Leadership Institute provides training, mentoring and networking opportunities to dermatologists looking to improve their leadership skills. To date, 2,200 AAD members have already benefited from these programs, which includes the Leadership Forum. With your support, we will continue to develop training sessions for beginners and more advanced leaders and continue the expansion of the Leadership Institute, building leaders who can advance dermatology at community, state and national levels.
Education/Research
Lifelong learning is an essential, core value of the Academy. In addition to developing evidence-based guidelines and leading efforts to create patient registries to facilitate dermatologic research, the Academy also recognizes innovative and outstanding research. Thanks in part to your donations for education/research, two Young Investigators Awards will be conferred at the 2012 Annual Meeting. Your support will help provide essential funds to ensure that our education and research programs continue to deliver top-notch information.
Skin Cancer Prevention/Public Awareness
The Academy is the leader in the fight against skin cancer, and provides a variety of tools and resources that promote the importance of sun safety and early detection of skin cancer. Last year, public service advertisements informing the public about the dangers of indoor tanning were delivered more than 188 million times. With your support, the Academy's skin cancer public education and volunteer activities will continue to thrive.
AAD Camp Discovery Endowment
The AAD Camp Discovery Endowment provides children with chronic skin conditions the opportunity to attend a life-changing summer camp at no cost. Last summer the endowement provided four six-weeklong camps, serving over 300 children. When you give to the AAD Camp Discovery Endowment, you help ensure Camp Discovery is offered well into the futre.
Area of Greatest Need
By designating your support to the area of greatest need, you give the Academy’s leadership the flexibility to use funds where they are needed most, allowing for the continued success of the above programs and others that protect the public, support leaders in dermatology, expand quality patient care, recognize outstanding research and more.
You may also make a donation in support of Dermatology in Action.
